40 years generating opportunities through music
Call open for the XLII Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition
Music and nature come together at the Live Room of the Liceu Conservatory
«We believe that art is not just a goal, but also a way to move forward together. In addition to filling concert halls, we would like to fill people’s lives».
We work so that music serves as a basis for social integration. We would like to remove music from the display cabinets and concert halls, where access is limited to only a few people. We would like music to be useful and within everybody’s reach.
Given our commitment to excellence, we would like to become a platform that ensures that no young talent is wasted. We transform lives and neighborhoods through music taught in schools of disadvantaged areas.
Our projects understand music as a transformative tool, and we will continue to work to make it available to everyone.
Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation: Empowering people since 1982
Our history
2016
The Primary Music project is launched to offer music education to schools in neighborhoods at risk of social exclusion. We believe that music can be a critical tool for the development of young people, and we don’t want any child to be left behind.
2016
The Foundation encourages patronage to include music therapy in the Nexe Foundation’s transdisciplinary project. This entity is devoted to providing resources, therapies, and support to children with multiple disabilities and their families.
2015
The Foundation starts collaborating with the Tenor Viñas singing competition and offers an extraordinary prize to recognize national talent.
2010
The Ferrer-Salat scholarship program is launched in collaboration with the Liceu Conservatory. The number of scholarships has increased to more than 60 per year, as has its endowment. The goal is to secure the talent of young students who are trained to play an important role in the future of music.
2007
Thanks to the close collaboration with the Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival, some of the great figures of the international music scene show up at the conservatory classrooms. Through the masterclasses program, students can perform with their idols as equals.
1998
Sergi Ferrer-Salat became the Chairman of the Foundation and, to this day, has gradually expanded its scope. The Foundation not only pursues excellence, but is also strongly committed to philanthropy and patronage, which are now more important than ever.
1982
The Prize was born out of the will to recognize the works of contemporary composers and to encourage the composition of new pieces. The first winner of the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition was the historically acclaimed Joan Guinjoan.
1982
The Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation was created in 1982 by Carles Ferrer Salat to promote the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition, a platform to ensure that our composer’s works are performed, recognized, and listened to.
