New call open for the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition

The call is open for the XL edition of the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition, with the aim of promoting and encouraging the creation of symphonic music. The prize, which is awarded annually by a jury made up of internationally renowned composers, is endowed with €100,000 to ensure the viability of the composer’s profession. This prestigious recognition is possible thanks to the involvement of Her Majesty Queen Sofia and the fact that the winning work will be premiered and performed for the first time by the most important orchestra in Spain: the RTVE Symphony Orchestra.

The Foundation is aware of the importance of creating support networks that promote and make the work of composers visible, so that it is recognized, performed, and listened to.

We should remember that, apart from receiving this important recognition, the winner of the award will also be appointed composer of the Xarxa de Músiques de Catalunya, within the Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya concert series, the season following the awarding of the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition.

This appointment involves the commissioning of two chamber music works for two different ensembles, freely chosen by the composer from among the groups participating in the Xarxa de Músiques season. These ensembles will premiere and perform the works throughout the concert series.

The deadline for submitting works is December 31, 2022. Those interested in participating will find more information on how to proceed in the Rules of the Competition.
