TOOLS FOR SOCIAL INTEGRATION
Musical Primary Education for inclusion
Music and, in particular, music education is a fundamental tool for social integration and cohesion.
Music creates irreplaceable cultural and emotional bonds between people, and its study promotes human and ethical progress within society, and thus contributes to fighting the profound socio-economic inequalities prevailing in the world today.
The Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation, together with the Liceu Conservatory and the Archbishopric Parish School Foundation of Barcelona, considered it essential to expand the primary music education program for social integration in disadvantaged environments and among those with a high risk of social exclusion. To this end, from the 2016-2017 academic year, this program was implemented in three primary schools in Barcelona:
- Bon Pastor School, in the Bon Pastor district
- Santísima Trinidad School, in the Trinitat Vella district
- L'Esperança School, in the Baró de Viver district
This program began its implementation in stages starting from the 2016-2017 academic year (1st and 2nd grade) and a new course will be expanded each year until its implementation is completed in the 2020-2021 academic year.
The objective, in the future, is to progressively expand the radius of implementation of this primary music program for social integration in other schools and districts that are in a similar situation of high risk of social exclusion.
Therefore, these schools are provided with human resources, with specialists from the Liceu Conservatory, and with instrumental resources. Scholarships are awarded to follow the Music School program for talented and committed students.
