This video shows Fabià Santcovsky Reschini’s journey to becoming the winner of the XLI Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition and seeing his work premiered.
Fabià Santcovsky Reschini received the award from Her Majesty, after the RTVE Symphony Orchestra performed Concierto de los elementos: I&II for the first time. The award ceremony was also an opportunity to affirm the transformative power of music in a world full of injustice.
Once again, the Teatro Monumental in Madrid hosted the premiere of the winning work of the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition, promoted by the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation. In this forty-first edition, the winning work was Concierto de los elementos: I&II, by Fabià Santcovsky Reschini.
After the performance by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Her Majesty Queen Sofía presented the prestigious award to the Barcelona composer on stage. In his speech, Sergi Ferrer-Salat, the chairman of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation, highlighted the importance of music as a “cornerstone of civilization”, particularly important in these difficult times where “signs of humanity are increasingly hard to find”, while emphasizing “the great transformative power of music on a social level”.
Created in 1982, the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition has become an international benchmark and the award with the largest endowment in its field in Europe, worth €100,000. Fabià Santcovsky Reschini declared that the prize is “an honor beyond measure” and expressed his satisfaction and excitement at the performance of Concierto de los elementos: I&II by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra. The composer was particularly grateful to Maestro Christoph König for “conducting with great sensitivity at the service of music and sound”; and to the violin soloist Joan Espina “for a such an uplifting and brilliant performance that even himself has become a star”.
The concert was recorded and can be viewed thanks to its broadcast on Los conciertos de La 2 (Televisión Española), a program devoted to classical music. After its premiere in Madrid, Concierto de los elementos: I&II, by Fabià Santcovsky Reschini, will be performed by the JONDE (Joven Orquesta Nacional de España) in its annual tour.
Receiving the Reina Sofia Prize in Music Composition also means that Fabià Santcovsky Reschini will be appointed as a composer of the Xarxa de Músiques a Catalunya, for which he will compose two chamber works to be performed in the concert series of the Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya.
